The Linksys PAP2 is a fully functional 2 port analogue telephone adapter which can be used with VoIP services. Like all ATAs, the Linksys PAP2 device plugs into your DSL router ( broadband router ) and phone ( corded phone or cordless phone ), and you can make and receive phone calls without using your computer ( your computer is switched off ). Plus 2 phones in, one into each port, and you can have 2 independent VoIP lines!

The benefits of Linksys PAP2 and linksys PAP2T - Phone Adaptor from Linksys

  • Multi Lines with the ability of supporting two VoIP lines. The Linksys PAP2T can connect up to two phone lines through your high speed cable or DSL Internet connection.
  •
Easy to set up, easy to use if you already have a DSL router. Just plug it into your broadband connected router and the power supply, use the two standard telephone jacks to connect your phones, wired or cordless. Pick up the phone, hear the dial tone and ready to make calls.
  • Convenience: with its small size, you can bring it with you when tralveling anywhere. When you want to use the phone device in other location - anywhere in the world - just disconnect the phone device and take it to other location, simply plug it into any broadband Internet connection. Connect a phone and you can make and receive calls.

Linksys PAP2-NA Phone Adapter Configuration Instructions

Linksys PAP2-NA Phone Adapter Configuration Instructions: The Linksys Phone Adapter enables use of high-quality feature-rich telephone service through your cable or DSL Internet connection. Just plug it into your home Router or Gateway and use the two standard telephone jacks to connect your existing phones. Each phone jack operates independently, with separate phone service and phone numbers -- like having two phone lines, you'll get clear telephone reception, even while using the Internet at the same time for normal data operations. Here are steps for phone adapter configuration:

STEP 1
You must first determine what IP address it received. To do this, you need to pick up the phone attached to the Line 1 jack ( of  linksys PAP2 phone device )

  • dial: **** (four asterisks)
  • hear "linksys configuration menu"
  • then dial: 110 #
  • and you will be told the IP address of your device (e.g. 192.168.0.100).

STEP 2
Go to browser on any computer on your network and enter the address:

http://<IP ADDRESS>/

Replace <IP ADDRESS> by the address that was given to you in STEP 1.

STEP 3
Click on the "Admin Login" button near the top right side of the screen, then click on the "Line 1" tab.

STEP 4
Modify a few parameters from the factory default. They are:

  • Proxy: sip.inphonex.com
  • Display Name: Enter your full name, this will show up as part of your caller id.
  • User ID: Enter the phone number you chose when you signed up for InPhonex service.
  • Password: Enter the password that you chose when you signed up for InPhonex service.
  • Register Expires: 3600

STEP 5
Save bandwidth: change Line 1 "Preferred Codec" to G729a.

Also change the "Use Pref Codec Only" to No.

You can only do this for one line. So, if Line 1 is on G.729a, Line 2 has to be some other codecs.

STEP 6
Save settings. Click on the "Save Settings " button at the bottom of the form.

STEP 7
Done - Ready to make calls!

Troubleshooting: If incoming calls does not ring

When someone calls this number ( connected to Linksys PAP2 device ) the phone ( connected to Linksys PAP2 device ) does not ring, although if you pick up the phone, the connection is working good and the sound is clear. When you call from this phone ( connected to PAP2 device ) to any phone, the people who receive your call can hear the ring.

Solution 1:

Check ON-OFF button of your phone ( the phone which connects to Linksys PAP2 device ) - Make sure it turns ON

If the phone set has a bad ring, replace by a good phone set.

Note: PAP2 is NOT working well with a digital phone since it may encounter some problems. It must be a analog phone to work good with the PAP2 device.

If you are using cordless phone - Not all cordless phones are quite compatible with VoIP, although many of them will work good for incoming calls and out coming calls but can not ring with incoming calls. Make sure to choose the one which works with Linksys PAP2 devices. All ANALOG CORDLESS PHONE models with 2.4 GHz to 5.8 GHz, 900 MHz should work good with VOIP services.

Solution 2:

If you are using ROUTER - check the ROUTER. The router which connects between ADSL (Modem/Jack/Filter...) and Linksys phone device must be working good.

ADSL(Modem/Jack/Filter) -->ROUTER--> LINKSYS PAP2-->PHONE

The router must be in good condition

Solution 3:

If you are using a router,  you might need to do port forward. This issue is usually caused when the router doesn’t send the traffic back. It can be resolved by configuring your router to allow Internet access to the device, and to force a forwarding of any relevant data to it.
This is done by setting the router to route traffic in specific ports we use, to the unique IP address the device uses in your local network.

How to fix: all you to do is open the ports in the DSL router. In the DSL router, need to change forward port 80 to the PAP2 LAN IP which requires for the remote router to be remote configure enabled. No changes need to be made in the PAP2 Linsys Device

For full instructions please refer router’s Manual Guide or consult with its manufacturer. Instructions for specific routers can be found at .

Solution 4:

You might need to change Ring Waveform from Linksys device.

Change Ring Waveform from Sinusoid to trapezoid.

Log into Admin by typing the IP address into browser

Go to Advanced View

Click on REGIONAL tab

Select Trapezoid

(Change the Ring Waveform from Sinusoid to Trapezoid)
Change the Ring Frequency from 25 to 20 (20 is the true specification for North America).

Click Save and Exit

If issue still persists, increase the Ring Voltage to 90.

If these two steps don't work, increase the Ring Voltage 5 volts at a time until it reaches 90v. Don't raise it past 90 if it still doesn't work. Instead, change the Waveform back to Sinusoid.

How to get Linksys IP Address:

"Linksys-ip-address" is the IP address you receive when dialing **** and 110 when prompted. The device will speak the IP address you need to insert. Here is instructions on how to get Linksys IP Address: you will need phone connected to Linksys PAP2 device, a pen and a paper ( to write down the IP address in numbers )

  • Dial ****
  • Hear “linksys configuration menu”
  • Dial 110 #
  • Listen to the IP address ( 10 number , for example 192.168.1.103
  • write it down to paper
